Overview

HBI-16 is a microbiome-based therapeutic candidate under development by the Human Biome Institute for the treatment of Graft-versus-Host Disease (GvHD). [7] Human Biome Institute, a spin-off from the Medical University of Warsaw, develops what it calls New-Generation Biotherapeutics (NGB), which are medicinal products that may contain bacteria, bacteriophages, proteins, and metabolites/postbiotics derived from the human gut microbiota. [1, 4] The company's research focuses on the microbiota's role in colonization resistance and immune function. [4] Although the specific composition and mechanism of action for HBI-16 have not been publicly disclosed, it is listed in the company's pipeline and is expected to be a microbiome-related therapy. [7]
