Overview

HBI0201-ESO is an autologous T-cell receptor (TCR) engineered T-cell therapy designed to target the New York esophageal squamous cell carcinoma 1 (NY-ESO-1) antigen. Developed by Professor Michal Lotem and her team at the Hadassah Cancer Research Institute (HCRI), the therapy involves genetically modifying a patient's own T-lymphocytes to express a high-affinity TCR specific for the NY-ESO-1 peptide presented by HLA-A*02:01 molecules. NY-ESO-1 is a cancer-testis antigen that is highly expressed in various solid tumors but has restricted expression in normal adult tissues, making it a promising target for immunotherapy. Once infused intravenously, these engineered T-cells recognize and eliminate NY-ESO-1-expressing cancer cells. HBI0201-ESO is currently being evaluated in Phase 1/2 clinical trials for patients with various metastatic cancers, including synovial sarcoma, melanoma, and triple-negative breast cancer.
