Overview

This is a combination therapy consisting of hepatitis B immune globulin (HBIG), lamivudine, and adefovir dipivoxil. It is used primarily for the prevention of hepatitis B virus (HBV) recurrence following liver transplantation and for the treatment of chronic hepatitis B, particularly in patients with lamivudine-resistant HBV. - **HBIG** is a purified antibody preparation that provides passive immunization against HBV by neutralizing circulating virus particles. - **Lamivudine** is a nucleoside analogue reverse transcriptase inhibitor that inhibits viral DNA synthesis by incorporating into viral DNA and causing chain termination. - **Adefovir dipivoxil** is an acyclic nucleotide analogue that inhibits HBV DNA polymerase (reverse transcriptase), leading to suppression of viral replication[1][2][3][4]. The combination aims to maximize antiviral efficacy, reduce the risk of resistance development, and prevent post-transplantation recurrence of HBV infection[1][2][4]. This regimen has been shown to be effective in reducing long-term recurrence rates after liver transplantation and in managing chronic hepatitis B with resistant strains.
