HBN-1 is a first-in-class neurotensin receptor 1 (NTR1) agonist developed by Hibernaid, Inc. for the induction of pharmacologically induced hypothermia (PIH). It is primarily being investigated as a neuroprotective treatment for patients resuscitated after out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA). Unlike traditional physical cooling methods (Targeted Temperature Management), which can trigger compensatory shivering and metabolic stress, HBN-1 acts on the thermoregulatory centers in the brain to lower the body's temperature set point. This mechanism mimics natural hibernation, potentially reducing ischemia-reperfusion injury and improving neurological recovery. HBN-1 is administered intravenously as a loading dose followed by a maintenance infusion.
