Drug intelligence / Profile preview
HBP01 is a therapeutic peptide derived from the commensal gut bacterium *Akkermansia muciniphila*, currently in preclinical development by HealthBiome for the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Unlike live biotherapeutic products (LBPs) that utilize whole bacterial strains, HBP01 is a specific bioactive peptide designed to modulate intestinal inflammation and host–microbiome interactions. The drug aims to restore intestinal barrier function and immune homeostasis by targeting the inflammatory pathways associated with chronic gut disorders. As a microbiome-derived peptide, it represents a targeted approach to leveraging the beneficial effects of the gut microbiota in a defined molecular format.
