HBS-AZ is a recombinant hepatitis B vaccine developed for the prevention of infection caused by the hepatitis B virus (HBV). It consists of highly purified hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) produced through recombinant DNA technology in *Saccharomyces cerevisiae* (yeast) cells. The HBsAg protein is adsorbed onto an aluminum hydroxide adjuvant to enhance the immune response. Upon administration, the vaccine induces the production of specific humoral antibodies (anti-HBs) that provide active immunity against all known subtypes of HBV. It is primarily indicated for infants, children, and adults at risk of HBV infection, including healthcare workers and individuals in high-prevalence areas.
