Overview
HBV-mAb is a human monoclonal antibody developed by researchers at Aarhus University Hospital, within Region Midtjylland, for the treatment of chronic hepatitis B infection. The antibody is designed to bind specifically to the hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg), thereby neutralizing the virus and preventing it from entering and infecting healthy liver cells (hepatocytes). By targeting HBsAg, HBV-mAb aims to reduce the viral burden and potentially assist in restoring the host's immune response against the virus, which is often suppressed in chronic infection. It is currently being investigated in early-phase clinical trials to assess its safety, tolerability, and efficacy in lowering HBsAg levels in patients.
