Overview
The HBV mRNA vaccine is a therapeutic mRNA-based biologic developed by WestGene Biopharma in collaboration with West China Hospital. It is designed to treat patients with Hepatitis B virus (HBV)-related hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), particularly those awaiting liver transplantation or those who have failed standard therapies. The vaccine consists of modified mRNA encoding specific HBV-related antigens, encapsulated within lipid nanoparticles (LNPs) for delivery. Upon administration, the mRNA is translated into viral proteins that stimulate the host's immune system to elicit a robust immune response against HBV-positive tumor cells. It is currently being evaluated in Phase 1 clinical trials as a bridge or downstaging therapy for HCC.
