Overview

HBW-004285 is a novel, orally administered small molecule inhibitor targeting the voltage-gated sodium channel Nav1.8 (Sodium channel protein type 8 subunit alpha). Developed by Hyperway Pharmaceutical (also known as Shenzhen Haibowei Pharmaceutical and Chengdu Haibowei Pharmaceutical), it is positioned as a non-addictive analgesic for the treatment of pain. Preclinical and clinical data indicate that HBW-004285 offers rapid absorption, dose-proportional exposure, superior pharmacokinetics, faster onset of action, longer-lasting analgesic effects, and a higher safety margin compared to VX-548—a leading competitor in this class. Phase I trials in healthy volunteers demonstrated good tolerability with only mild adverse events and no significant accumulation or gender differences in pharmacokinetics. The drug has advanced to Phase II clinical development for pain indications in China[1][2][3][4][6][7][9].
