Drug intelligence / Profile preview
HC2-LC1 is a humanized single-chain variable fragment (scFv) antibody being developed by the Mayo Clinic for the treatment of COVID-19. Derived from a murine anti-Ebola virus glycoprotein (GP) scFv antibody that exhibited cross-reactivity due to structural similarities between the Ebola GP and the SARS-CoV-2 spike (S) protein, HC2-LC1 was humanized using computer modeling. It specifically targets the receptor-binding domain (RBD) of the SARS-CoV-2 spike glycoprotein, neutralizing the virus and preventing infection of host cells. Preclinical studies indicate that HC2-LC1 retains the binding affinity, virus neutralization, and cell-protective properties of its parental murine antibody.
