Overview

This investigational combination therapy consists of a low-dose human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) at 1,500 IU and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) at 450 IU. Developed by researchers at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) Center for Reproductive Health, it is utilized as an oocyte maturation trigger in women undergoing in vitro fertilization (IVF). The regimen is designed to mimic the natural mid-cycle surge of LH and FSH, targeting the LH/hCG and FSH receptors on ovarian follicles to induce final oocyte maturation. By using a significantly lower dose of hCG than standard protocols (which typically use 5,000-10,000 IU), this co-trigger approach aims to reduce the incidence and severity of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS) while maintaining high rates of oocyte competence, fertilization, and pregnancy outcomes.
