HCP0918 is a pharmaceutical formulation of omega-3-acid ethyl esters developed by Hanmi Pharmaceutical for the treatment of hyperlipidemia, specifically hypertriglyceridemia. It is a lipid-regulating agent composed of ethyl esters of omega-3 fatty acids, primarily eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). HCP0918 works by activating peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor alpha (PPAR-alpha) and inhibiting key enzymes and transcription factors involved in hepatic triglyceride synthesis, such as diacylglycerol O-acyltransferase (DGAT) and sterol regulatory element-binding protein 1 (SREBP-1). This leads to a reduction in the hepatic production and secretion of very-low-density lipoprotein (VLDL) triglycerides. HCP0918 has been evaluated in clinical trials both as a monotherapy and as a component of fixed-dose combinations (FDCs), such as HCP1105, which combines omega-3-acid ethyl esters with rosuvastatin to provide a comprehensive lipid-lowering effect for patients with mixed dyslipidemia.
