HCQ01

HCQ01 is a nebulized formulation of hydroxychloroquine sulfate, a small molecule antimalarial and immunomodulatory drug, being investigated by the Ministry of Health Jordan for the treatment of COVID-19. Administered via inhalation, HCQ01 is designed to deliver the active ingredient directly to the lungs, the primary site of SARS-CoV-2 infection, to achieve high local concentrations while minimizing systemic exposure and associated side effects like cardiotoxicity. The drug's proposed mechanism in COVID-19 involves inhibiting viral entry by increasing endosomal pH and modulating the inflammatory response to prevent cytokine storms. It was evaluated in a Phase 2 clinical trial in hospitalized patients.
