HCR-188

HCR-188 is a first-in-class monoclonal antibody developed by Helicore Biopharma for the treatment of obesity and related metabolic conditions. Unlike GIP receptor antagonists, HCR-188 binds directly to the circulating glucose-dependent insulinotropic peptide (GIP) ligand, which is produced exclusively by K cells in the small intestine. By binding to GIP ligand, HCR-188 reduces its availability to interact with GIP receptors throughout the body—including adipose tissue and brain structures—potentially preventing central nervous system GIP signaling. This mechanism may restore leptin sensitivity, increase satiety, reduce food intake and fat deposition, and offer cardiometabolic benefits. The drug is currently being evaluated in a Phase 1 clinical trial involving overweight or obese adults without diabetes mellitus[1][4][5][7].
