Drug intelligence / Profile preview
HCT1026 is a nitric oxide (NO)-releasing derivative of flurbiprofen, classified as a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), specifically an ester prodrug of flurbiprofen incorporating a nitrate carrier moiety. It combines the anti-inflammatory properties of flurbiprofen with NO-mediated effects, yielding both cyclooxygenase (COX-1 and COX-2) inhibitory activity and vasodilatory/anti-inflammatory action via NO release. In animal models, HCT1026 has shown improved potency and safety over classical NSAIDs and corticosteroids, with beneficial effects in Duchenne and limb-girdle muscular dystrophy, and preclinical neuroprotective and amyloid-lowering activity for Alzheimer’s disease. It has been formulated for both oral and topical (ointment) use and has shown anti-inflammatory efficacy in clinical and preclinical settings[1][2][3][5][6][9].
