Overview

HCV1406 TCR-transduced T cells are a form of autologous **T cell therapy** in which a patient's T cells are genetically engineered to express a **high-affinity T cell receptor (TCR)** specific for the **hepatitis C virus (HCV) antigen 1406** epitope. Unlike chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapies, which recognize surface antigens via antibody-derived receptors, TCR-transduced T cells can target peptide antigens presented on major histocompatibility complex (MHC) molecules. This approach is used to redirect the patient's immune system to identify and destroy cells, such as virally infected or cancer cells, that present the specific HCV 1406 epitope. The principle indications being investigated typically include HCV-associated malignancies such as hepatocellular carcinoma, where HCV antigens are present. The engineering process involves isolating T cells from the patient, introducing the specific TCR gene, expanding the modified cells, and re-infusing them into the patient.
