HCW9201 is a GMP-grade, recombinant fusion protein developed by HCW Biologics. It is designed to mimic the combined activity of interleukin-12 (IL-12), interleukin-15 (IL-15), and interleukin-18 (IL-18) cytokines, acting as an agonist or stimulant for their respective receptors. The drug's primary function is to activate and expand memory-like natural killer (NK) cells, enhancing their cytotoxicity and anti-cancer functions. This approach aims to replace the traditional IL-12/IL-15/IL-18 cytokine cocktail used in cell-based cancer therapies with a single, scalable biologic suitable for clinical use. HCW9201 is being investigated mainly for its ability to prime NK cells ex vivo for adoptive immunotherapy in patients with relapsed or refractory acute myeloid leukemia (AML). It has demonstrated similar efficacy in activating NK cells compared to the cytokine cocktail and supports large-scale manufacturing processes required for advanced clinical trials[7][8][2].
