HCW9302 is a first-in-class, injectable interleukin 2 (IL-2)-based fusion protein complex developed using the proprietary TOBI platform technology by HCW Biologics. It is designed to selectively activate and expand regulatory T cells (Treg) by binding with high affinity to IL-2αβγ receptors predominantly expressed on Treg cells. This mechanism enables suppression of unwanted immune and inflammatory responses, making it a promising immunotherapy for autoimmune and inflammatory diseases. Preclinical studies have demonstrated that HCW9302 has an extended serum half-life, exceptional potency, and can be administered at doses that expand Treg cells without activating CD4+ effector T cells. The drug aims to reduce inflammation while minimizing broad immunosuppression risks. Its initial clinical focus is on moderate-to-severe alopecia areata, but development plans include other autoimmune disorders and aging-related diseases such as neurodegenerative conditions[3][4][5][6][8].
