hDFSCs-Exo is an investigational exosome-based therapy derived from human dental follicle mesenchymal stem cells (hDFSCs). It is being developed by the Zigong Mental Health Center specifically to address the negative symptoms of treatment-resistant schizophrenia, a domain of the illness that often responds poorly to standard antipsychotic medications. Administered via intranasal delivery to facilitate direct access to the central nervous system, these exosomes are hypothesized to exert therapeutic effects by delivering bioactive cargo—including microRNAs and proteins—that can modulate neuroinflammation, enhance synaptic plasticity, and provide neurotrophic support. As a cell-free derivative of stem cells, hDFSCs-Exo aims to provide the regenerative benefits of stem cell therapy while minimizing risks associated with live cell transplantation.
