HDT-201 is a broad-spectrum, intranasal antiviral candidate developed by HDT Bio. It utilizes a RIG-I activating RNA (RAR) molecule, which is an innate immune agonist derived and modified from the Hepatitis C virus RNA genome. The RAR molecule is delivered using HDT Bio’s proprietary LION lipid nanoparticle delivery system into cells, where it binds to the retinoic acid-inducible gene I protein. This interaction activates the body’s innate immune response, stimulating antiviral genes that suppress infection and enhance antibody production against viruses. Preclinical studies have shown that HDT-201 can prevent or slow replication of various respiratory and mosquito-borne viruses including influenza A, SARS-CoV-2, common cold coronaviruses, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), West Nile virus, dengue virus, and Japanese encephalitis virus. The drug is being developed both as a therapeutic and preventative agent for viral infections with particular focus on rapid deployment in high-risk settings such as military personnel[1][2][3][5].
