Overview
HDV-Interferon (HDV-IFN) is an oral formulation of interferon protein encapsulated within a proprietary Hepatic-Directed Vesicle (HDV), a bi-layer phospholipid nano-carrier (20-50 nm). Developed by SDG, Inc., the HDV technology is designed to protect the protein from enzymatic degradation in the digestive tract and facilitate its delivery to the liver (hepatocytes) via the portal vein, mimicking the natural physiological path of endogenous proteins. This delivery system aims to provide a more convenient oral alternative to traditional injectable interferon therapies for chronic hepatitis C. Clinical studies, including Phase 2 trials, have investigated HDV-Interferon in combination with ribavirin to assess its efficacy and safety compared to pegylated interferon-alpha-2a.
