Overview

HDV-Rapid Acting Insulin is a hepatic-directed insulin therapy developed by Diasome Pharmaceuticals for the treatment of Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes. The drug utilizes Hepatocyte Directed Vesicle (HDV) technology, which consists of nanometer-scale phospholipid vesicles (<150 nm) containing a proprietary hepatocyte-targeting molecule, biotin-phosphatidylethanolamine. This system is designed to be added to commercially available rapid-acting insulins. Upon subcutaneous administration, the HDV-insulin complex preferentially targets hepatic insulin receptors in the portal-hepatic region, mimicking the physiological first-pass delivery of insulin from the pancreas to the liver. By restoring hepatic glucose regulation, the therapy aims to improve glycemic control and reduce the incidence of hypoglycemia compared to conventional insulin therapies.
