Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Healon D is a dispersive ophthalmic viscosurgical device (OVD) composed of a low molecular weight formulation of sodium hyaluronate. Developed by Advanced Medical Optics (now Johnson & Johnson Vision), it is specifically designed to coat and protect the corneal endothelium and other intraocular tissues during complex ophthalmic procedures. Its dispersive nature allows it to remain in the eye during irrigation and aspiration, providing a protective barrier throughout surgery. It is indicated for use as a surgical aid in cataract extraction, intraocular lens (IOL) implantation, corneal transplant, and glaucoma filtration surgery, where it helps maintain the anterior chamber and facilitates tissue manipulation.
