Overview
HealoTEAR is a proprietary fluid-gel formulation technology developed by Healome Therapeutics, a spinout from the University of Birmingham. The technology utilizes a novel material that flows like a liquid upon application but self-structures into a thin, clear, protective layer on the ocular surface. This layer is designed to provide enhanced drug retention, lubrication, and protection for 2 to 8 hours before being cleared by blinking. The platform is preservative-free and can be used as a carrier to deliver various therapeutics. Healome Therapeutics is applying this technology to reformulate existing glaucoma medications to improve their residence time and therapeutic efficacy on the eye surface, potentially enhancing patient compliance and outcomes.
