Heartcel is an allogeneic immunomodulatory progenitor (iMP) cell therapy developed by Cell Therapy Ltd. (CTL) for the treatment of severe heart failure and ischemic cardiomyopathy. The therapy consists of specialized mesenchymal precursor cells that are delivered via intramyocardial injection, typically during coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery. Heartcel's mechanism of action involves the immunomodulation of the cardiac environment to promote the regeneration of heart muscle and the reversal of myocardial fibrosis (scarring). Clinical data from Phase 2 trials have demonstrated improvements in cardiac function and a reduction in scar tissue. The developer has established strategic partnerships with Daiichi Sankyo for the Japanese market and Zhongyuan Union for development in China, leveraging accelerated regulatory pathways for regenerative medicines.
