Hearticellgram-AMI is an autologous cell therapy product composed of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) harvested from a patient's own bone marrow. It is indicated for the improvement of left ventricular ejection fraction in patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) following reperfusion. The therapy works by promoting myocardial regeneration, reducing fibrosis, and stimulating angiogenesis through the secretion of various paracrine factors. Developed by the South Korean company Pharmicell, it received landmark approval from the Korean Ministry of Food and Drug Safety in July 2011, becoming the first stem cell drug to be commercialized globally. The treatment involves isolating MSCs from bone marrow, expanding them ex vivo, and then administering them via intracoronary injection.
