Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Heat-inactivated Bifidobacterium bifidum SYN-HI-001 (also known as HI-MIMBb75) is a non-viable, heat-killed postbiotic preparation of the probiotic strain Bifidobacterium bifidum MIMBb75. Developed by Synformulas GmbH, it is indicated for the treatment of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). The mechanism of action involves the modulation of the gut microbiome and physical interaction with the intestinal epithelium, which helps to strengthen the gut barrier and reduce intestinal permeability. Unlike live probiotics, its beneficial effects are mediated independently of bacterial cell viability. Clinical data from a large-scale, multicenter, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial in Germany demonstrated that SYN-HI-001 significantly alleviates IBS symptoms, including abdominal pain, bloating, and urgency, with a safety profile comparable to placebo.
