Heat-inactivated Lactiplantibacillus plantarum 299v (formerly Lactobacillus plantarum 299v) is a specific strain of lactic acid bacteria that, when inactivated by heat, functions as a postbiotic. It is designed to confer health benefits by modulating the gut microbiota, enhancing the intestinal barrier, and exerting immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory effects. This includes preventing the colonization of the gut by potential pathogens and reducing endotoxemia. Developed by Probi AB, it is primarily administered orally and has been investigated for various gastrointestinal conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome, acute pancreatitis, and Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea, as well as for its potential in supporting cancer treatment, improving iron absorption, and addressing vascular aging.
