Drug intelligence / Profile preview
heat-killed Staphylococcus epidermidis BS47C-1 (also referred to as SE2) is a human skin microbiome-derived bacterial strain being developed as a topical treatment for acne vulgaris. Originated from healthy human skin, this heat-killed probiotic strain exhibits anti-inflammatory and skin barrier-supporting properties. In preclinical models, topical application of heat-killed S. epidermidis BS47C-1 significantly downregulates the expression of acne-associated inflammatory mediators (such as IL-1β, IL-6, IL-8, COX-2, iNOS, and TNF-α) induced by Cutibacterium acnes, while also downregulating cytokine and interferon signaling and enhancing skin barrier and antimicrobial gene expression in keratinocytes.
