Overview

Heat shock protein 70-derived peptide is an investigational cancer vaccine, most commonly referring to the 9-mer epitope **HSP70-407** (sequence: SLFEGIDIY), developed primarily by researchers at Yamaguchi University. This peptide is designed to elicit a specific cytotoxic T lymphocyte (CTL) response against tumor cells that overexpress heat shock protein 70 (HSP70) on their cell surface. HSP70 is a molecular chaperone that is frequently upregulated in various malignancies—including pancreatic, gastric, colorectal, and esophageal cancers—while maintaining low expression in normal tissues. The vaccine is typically administered subcutaneously, often in combination with an adjuvant such as incomplete Freund's adjuvant (IFA), and is restricted to patients with the HLA-A*2402 haplotype. Clinical trials have progressed to Phase 2, evaluating its efficacy both as a monotherapy and in combination with standard chemotherapy across several solid tumor indications.
