Overview
Heat stable rotavirus vaccine is an investigational oral, lyophilized, live-attenuated pentavalent rotavirus vaccine developed by Hilleman Laboratories. It contains five human-bovine WC3 reassortant rotaviruses representing G1, G2, G3, G4, and P1[8], analogous to the antigenic composition of RotaTeq. The formulation was designed for enhanced thermal stability to reduce dependence on refrigerated supply chains and to prevent rotavirus gastroenteritis in infants and young children. A randomized Phase I/II study evaluated safety, reactogenicity, and immunogenicity in adults and infants, and Hilleman Laboratories reports the program as being in Phase II clinical development.
