Overview

Hebermin is a topical cream developed by the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (CIGB) in Cuba. It is a combination product containing recombinant human epidermal growth factor (rhEGF), also known as nepidermin, and silver sulfadiazine. The rhEGF component acts as an agonist at the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR), stimulating the proliferation and migration of keratinocytes and fibroblasts to accelerate wound closure and tissue regeneration. Silver sulfadiazine provides broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity, preventing and treating infections at the wound site. Hebermin is primarily indicated for the treatment of partial and full-thickness burns, as well as chronic wounds such as diabetic foot ulcers and pressure sores. It is approved for use in Cuba and several other countries in Latin America and elsewhere.
