Overview

Hedysarum alpinum L. polysaccharide extracts are bioactive heteropolysaccharides derived from the roots of the plant Hedysarum alpinum L., a species used in traditional medicine, especially in East Asia[1][4]. These polysaccharide-rich extracts consist mainly of galactose, glucose, xylose, arabinose, and rhamnose, and have demonstrated pharmacological effects including antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antitumor, anti-aging, and immunomodulatory activities[1][4][5]. Mechanistic studies show that HPS can inhibit the Keap1 signaling and activate the Nrf2 pathway, leading to increased expression of antioxidant enzymes and suppression of oxidative stress. HPS has shown promise in animal models for diabetes (by regulating blood sugar and oxidative damage), liver injury (as an antioxidant and hepatoprotective agent), and other indications such as cardiovascular disease, fibrosis, and neurodegenerative disorders including Alzheimer’s disease[1][2][3][4][5].
