Helicidine is a peripheral-acting antitussive medication derived from the mucoglycoprotein of the Burgundy snail (*Helix pomatia L.*). Developed and marketed by Therabel Group, it is primarily used to treat dry and irritating coughs associated with respiratory tract disorders. The drug functions by exerting a bronchorelaxant effect, which is believed to be mediated through the release of prostaglandins. It has been available in France for over 40 years and is typically formulated as a 10% syrup. It is indicated for adults and children over the age of two, but is contraindicated in infants due to the risk of bronchial congestion.
