Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Helixate FS is a recombinant antihemophilic factor (Factor VIII) therapy developed and marketed by CSL Behring for the treatment of hemophilia A. It is a second-generation recombinant Factor VIII product produced using recombinant DNA technology in baby hamster kidney (BHK) cells. The drug functions by replacing the deficient or defective clotting Factor VIII in patients, thereby restoring the intrinsic pathway of the coagulation cascade and enabling effective clot formation. Helixate FS was indicated for the on-demand treatment and control of bleeding episodes, perioperative management, and routine prophylaxis to reduce bleeding frequency and joint damage in both adults and children. The product was manufactured by Bayer for CSL Behring and was phased out globally after December 2017 as CSL Behring transitioned its portfolio toward next-generation hemophilia treatments.
