Overview
Helleborus niger extract (Hiscia) is a standardized aqueous botanical preparation developed by the Hiscia Institute (Society for Cancer Research) for use in integrative and anthroposophic oncology. Derived from the Christmas rose, the extract contains a complex mixture of bioactive compounds, including cardiac glycosides (such as hellebrin), steroidal saponins, ecdysteroids, and γ-lactones. These components are thought to work synergistically to induce apoptosis and exert cytotoxic effects on various malignant cells, including those from brain tumors, prostate cancer, and hematological malignancies. In clinical practice, it is typically administered via subcutaneous or intravenous injection as a complementary therapy alongside conventional treatments to modulate the immune response and inhibit tumor proliferation.
