Overview
Helminthostachys zeylanica extract is a botanical preparation derived from the traditional Chinese medicinal plant *Helminthostachys zeylanica* (L.) Hook, commonly known as 'Dao-Di-U-Gon' in Taiwan. It is being investigated by Changhua Christian Hospital for its potential to enhance functional recovery in patients following surgical intervention for ankle fractures. The extract contains bioactive flavonoids known as ugonins, which possess anti-inflammatory, anti-edema, and analgesic properties. Research indicates that ugonins may facilitate bone healing by promoting osteoblastic differentiation. In clinical trials, the extract is administered orally to reduce post-operative pain and swelling, and to improve wound healing and overall functional outcomes.
