Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Renacidin (hemiacidrin) is a sterile, non-pyrogenic irrigation solution developed by United-Guardian. It is a fixed-dose combination of citric acid, gluconolactone (glucono-delta-lactone), and magnesium carbonate. Renacidin is FDA-approved for the dissolution of bladder calculi of the struvite or apatite variety and for the prevention of encrustations of indwelling urethral catheters and cystostomy tubes. It acts as a local urinary acidifying and chelating agent; the citric acid component chelates calcium ions to form soluble complexes, while the acidic pH of the solution solubilizes magnesium ammonium phosphate (struvite) calculi. It is administered locally via intravesical or percutaneous irrigation.
