Hemokines are a panel of orally available small-molecule short-chain fatty acid derivatives developed by Phoenicia BioSciences for the treatment of cytopenias and radiation-induced bone marrow damage. These compounds function by augmenting STAT-5 signaling, which stimulates the proliferation of human hematopoietic progenitor cells across erythroid, myeloid, and megakaryocytic lineages. Hemokines have demonstrated the ability to accelerate hematologic recovery in preclinical models, including irradiated mice, dogs, and baboons. The program is intended to address bone marrow injury resulting from acute radiation sickness, chemotherapy, transplantation, or inherited cytopenias.
