Overview

HEMOXYCarrier is a universal oxygen carrier biotechnology product developed by Hemarina. It is based on M101, a natural giant extracellular hemoglobin (3600 kDa) derived from the marine lugworm *Arenicola marina*. Unlike human hemoglobin, M101 is naturally extracellular, does not require cofactors for oxygen release, and possesses a high oxygen-binding capacity, carrying up to 156 oxygen molecules compared to 4 in human hemoglobin. It is designed for systemic administration to improve tissue oxygenation in various clinical settings, including hemorrhagic shock, organ ischemia, and traumatic brain injury. Preclinical data suggest it lacks the vasoconstrictive and hypertensive effects seen in earlier hemoglobin-based oxygen carriers (HBOCs) and is non-immunogenic.
