This investigational cannabis-containing topical cream is developed by researchers at Thammasat University Hospital in Thailand for the treatment of uremic pruritus (chronic kidney disease-associated pruritus) in hemodialysis patients. The formulation contains cannabis oil extracted from *Cannabis sativa L* seeds, which includes phytocannabinoids such as cannabidiol (CBD) and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). The cream exerts its therapeutic effects through the activation of cannabinoid receptors (CB1 and CB2) and the modulation of transient receptor potential (TRP) channels. These mechanisms contribute to anti-inflammatory and antioxidative effects, as well as a reduction in peripheral nerve activation, which collectively alleviate the severity of itching. In a Phase 1/2 double-blind, placebo-controlled trial (NCT06159686), the cream demonstrated significant efficacy in reducing itch intensity scores compared to placebo over a four-week treatment period.
