henggegliflozin

Henggegliflozin (SHR3824) is an orally bioavailable, selective inhibitor of the sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2), developed by Jiangsu Hengrui Pharmaceuticals. It was approved by China's National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) in December 2021 for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus to improve glycemic control. By inhibiting SGLT2 in the proximal tubules of the kidney, henggegliflozin reduces the reabsorption of filtered glucose and lowers the renal threshold for glucose, thereby promoting urinary glucose excretion. Beyond its primary use in glycemic management, the drug is being investigated for its potential renoprotective effects, specifically its ability to reduce microalbuminuria in patients with type 2 diabetic nephropathy.
