Overview

HenipaVax is a recombinant subunit vaccine candidate designed to prevent infection by Nipah virus and related henipaviruses by inducing neutralizing antibodies against the soluble G glycoprotein of Hendra virus, which shares highly conserved receptor‑binding epitopes with Nipah virus. The vaccine consists of a purified, soluble form of the Hendra virus attachment (G) glycoprotein formulated with an aluminium hydroxide adjuvant, and has shown protective efficacy against both Nipah and Hendra virus challenge in multiple animal models, including non‑human primates.[2][6][11] Originally developed at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, the construct has been licensed to Auro Vaccines and advanced with support from CEPI and PATH into a Phase 1, randomized, placebo‑controlled dose‑escalation trial in healthy adults to assess safety, tolerability, and immunogenicity as the first Nipah virus vaccine candidate to reach human testing.[2][3][6][11]
