Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Hepalin-M is an injectable anticoagulant medication manufactured by Merlin Pharmaceuticals. It contains heparin sodium, a highly sulfated glycosaminoglycan that acts as an indirect thrombin inhibitor. Hepalin-M functions by binding to and accelerating the activity of antithrombin III (ATIII), which in turn inactivates several coagulation factors, most notably thrombin (Factor IIa) and Factor Xa. This process prevents the formation of fibrin clots and the extension of existing thrombi. It is clinically indicated for the prophylaxis and treatment of venous thromboembolism (VTE), including deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE), and is also used for anticoagulation during surgical procedures and hemodialysis.
