Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Hepar-P is a standardized herbal capsule formulation containing 250 mg of Phyllanthus niruri extract (EPN 797) per capsule, standardized to contain 4% corilagin and 18% total flavonoids. It is developed as a natural liver tonic agent, primarily indicated for liver health, including the management of hepatitis B and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). The mechanism of action is attributed mainly to corilagin and other tannins in Phyllanthus niruri, which have demonstrated antiviral properties by binding virus particles and hepatoprotective effects through antioxidant activity. Clinical studies suggest safety at doses up to 3,000 mg/day for one year; efficacy has been observed in reducing elevated liver enzymes and improving markers of fibrosis in NAFLD patients[1][6][8]. Hepar-P holds two Malaysian patents.
