This experimental regenerative therapy is an injectable biocomposite hydrogel developed by the National Scientific Center of Traumatology and Orthopedics Named after Academician N.D. Batpenov. It consists of a heparin-conjugated fibrin matrix (HCFM) that serves as a delivery vehicle and scaffold for autologous mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) and two potent chondroinductive growth factors: Transforming Growth Factor-beta 1 (TGF-β1) and Bone Morphogenetic Protein 4 (BMP-4). The heparin conjugation within the fibrin matrix allows for the sustained and controlled release of these growth factors, which work synergistically to promote the differentiation of MSCs into chondrocytes and facilitate the repair of cartilage and osteochondral tissues. The therapy is primarily targeted at treating degenerative and traumatic joint conditions, specifically ankle osteoarthritis and osteochondral defects of the talus.
