heparinoid sodium

Heparinoid sodium is a mixture of sulfated glycosaminoglycans (mucopolysaccharides) derived from animal tissues, structurally related to heparin. It is primarily employed in topical dermatological preparations for its anticoagulant, anti-inflammatory, and humectant properties. The drug exerts its therapeutic effects by inhibiting thrombin and Factor Xa, thereby improving microcirculation and reducing blood viscosity, and by inhibiting hyaluronidase to decrease tissue inflammation. Additionally, it enhances the water-holding capacity of the stratum corneum, making it effective for treating xeroderma (dry skin). It is also indicated for the management of hypertrophic scars, keloids, and superficial thrombophlebitis.
