Overview

Combined hepatitis A and B vaccine is an intramuscularly administered combination vaccine used to provide protection against both hepatitis A virus (HAV) and hepatitis B virus (HBV). The most widely known brand is Twinrix. The vaccine contains inactivated HAV antigen and recombinant HBV surface antigen. It works by stimulating the immune system to produce antibodies against both viruses, thereby conferring immunity. The primary indication is prevention of infection with all known subtypes of HAV and HBV in adults and children at risk for these diseases. It is typically given as a series of three injections over six months or on an accelerated schedule with a booster dose[1][3][5]. Developed by GlaxoSmithKline Biologicals (now GSK), it combines components from Havrix (hepatitis A) and Engerix-B (hepatitis B)[5].
