Drug intelligence / Profile preview
The live attenuated hepatitis A vaccine is a biologic product designed to provide active immunity against the hepatitis A virus (HAV). Unlike the inactivated HAV vaccines more commonly used in Western countries, the live attenuated version is primarily utilized in China and other parts of Asia. It is typically derived from the H2 or LA-1 attenuated strains of the virus. The vaccine works by inducing both humoral and cellular immune responses through the replication of a weakened form of the virus in the recipient, mimicking a natural infection without causing clinical disease. It is often administered as a single-dose regimen, although some protocols include a booster, and it has demonstrated long-term immune persistence in pediatric populations.
