Hepatitis B antibodies, in the context of the SAMBA clinical trial, refers to an investigational combination of two human monoclonal antibodies (mAbs), designated as HBV-1 and HBV-2. Developed by researchers at Aarhus University and Aarhus University Hospital and sponsored by Region Midtjylland, these antibodies are designed to target the Hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg). The mechanism involves binding to and neutralizing HBsAg, which is intended to clear viral particles from the circulation and potentially overcome the immune tolerance characteristic of chronic hepatitis B infection. This therapeutic approach aims to achieve a "functional cure" by restoring the patient's own immune response against the virus. The combination is currently being evaluated in a Phase 1 ascending dose study (SAMBA) to assess its safety, tolerability, and preliminary antiviral effects in individuals with chronic hepatitis B.
